2022 AFC Asian Women’s Cup: Japan, South Korea Book Quarter-Final Qualifications

Japan and South Korea have qualified for the quarter-final of the 2022 AFC Asian Women’s Cup in India after playing out a 1-1 draw in their final Group C game on Thursday.

Both sides have defeated Vietnam and Myanmar in their first two group games.
Riko Ueki scored one of the fastest goals of the tournament to put Japan ahead immediately after kick-off.
Japan seemed to be cruising to a win to maintain a perfect start to the tournament before Ji-Yeon Seo equalised for South Korea in the 85th minute.

Japan finished the group stage as the leader of Group C with seven points and a superior goal difference ahead of South Korea.
Group B will be concluded later on Thursday with group leaders, Australia facing Thailand while the Philippines and Indonesia square up in the other game.

Vietnam and Myanmar settled for a 2-2 draw in both sides’ final Group C game on Thursday.
Win Theingi Tun’s 28th-minute penalty opened the scoring for Myanmar before Tuyet Dung Nguyen Thi equaliser for Vietnam in the additional minutes of the first half.
Khin Marlar Tun restored Myanmar’s lead in the 49th minute but the lead lasted for 15 minutes before Nhu Huynh’s equaliser for Vietnam.
Vietnam with a point ended the group in the third position ahead of Myanmar on superior goal difference.
