2022 CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers Draw Revealed

On the side of the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) which is now down to two (2) games; third place and final match, the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) on Wednesday conducted the draw for the Zonal Qualifiers for the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

Seven clubs from WAFU-B (West Africa Zone B) were drawn into two (2) groups with Group A having three teams while Group B comprises four teams.
Host, AS D’Abidjan (Cote D’Ivoire), AS Police (Niger Republic), and Espoir (Benin Republic) were pitted in Group A.
Group B houses Ampem Darkoa (Ghana), USFA (Burkina Faso), Athleta FC (Togo), and Nigerian Champions, Bayelsa Queens.
Last year’s winner, Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana didn’t qualify for this year’s edition alongside the beaten finalist, Rivers Angels of Nigeria.
Three clubs in WAFU-A (West Africa Zone A); Determine Girls (Liberia), AS Mande (Mali), and USPA (Senegal) will fight for the sole ticket from Zone as the winner will represent WAFU-A at the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

AS Mande of Mali won the maiden WAFU-A Zonal Qualifiers last year
For UNAF (North African Zone), Banque De L’Habitat (Tunisia), AFAK Relizane (Algeria), and Wadi Degla (Egypt) will battle for the sole ticket with ASFAR FC of Morocco expected to host the main tournament in October this year.

In the COSAFA (Southern Africa Zone), winners of last year’s Zonal Qualifiers and by extension the maiden TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa will face Costa Do Sol (Mozambique), and Double Action Ladies (Botswana) in Group A of the Zonal Qualifiers.
Green Buffaloes (Zambia), Young Buffaloes (Eswatini), and Olympique De Moroni (Comoros Islands) will trade tackle in Group B.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies as Champions of the maiden TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League automatically qualifies for this year’s edition but if the team wins this year’s Zonal Qualifiers, it will be joined by the second-placed team at the main tournament.

The CECAFA Zone (East and Central Africa) have the largest number of participants with eight (8) clubs drawn into two (2) groups of four (4).
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), Warriors QFC (Zanzibar), Fofila FF (Burundi), and AS Kigali (Rwanda) will square up in Group B.

Simba Queens (Tanzania), GRFC (Djibouti), She Corporate FC (Uganda), and Yei Join Stars (South Sudan) were drawn into Group B.
Vihiga Queens of Kenya won the maiden CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers last year defeating Commercial Bank of Ethiopia 2-1 in the final but the team won’t be participating in this year’s edition due to a ban on Kenya football by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
