More than 81 players, including the World Cup-winning squad, wrote an open letter to RFEF saying they would refuse call-ups to the national team with the current leadership in place.

Manager Jorge Vilda’s entire coaching staff have also resigned in protest until the matter is resolved.

Spain star Jenni Hermoso came out with her own statement after being non-consensually kissed by Rubiales during the World Cup celebrations.

"I feel the need to report this incident because I believe that no person, in any work, sports, or social setting should be the victim of those types of non-consensual behaviors,” she said.

"Contigo Jenni" has become a rallying cry across women's soccer.

Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) suspended Rubiales for 90 days while they investigate the matter. Without a resignation, he would have to be removed by a higher governing body.

The drop comes after the United States Women's National Team (USWNT's) disappointing Round of 16 exit from the 2023 World Cup.

Sweden now holds the top spot after their third-place finish, and World Cup champions Spain moved up to number 2.

Despite a fourth-place finish, Australia dropped out of the top 10 to number 11 with three losses in the tournament.

Canada and Germany also fell due to their group stage exits.
