Sandrine Niyonkuru’s first-half penalty separated both sides and ultimately won the match for the UNAF (North African) champions.

Niyonkuru scored the winner from the penalty spot while her teammates put up superb defensive discipline to prevent the Brazilians from leveling the scoreline.

Jerry Tshabalala’s side tried to equalize in the second half with efforts, especially from Melinda Kgadiete, going wide.

The result ended Sundowns’ five-match unbeaten record in the tournament since a 4-0 loss to AS FAR FC in the final of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

The loss was Sundowns’ second as far as the tournament is concerned.

FC Masar ended their opponents’ five-game clean sheets and became the third club to score against the South African side in the tournament.
