Egyptian champions FC Masar edged holders, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 1-0 in their first-ever match at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Casablanca, Morocco on Sunday.

Sandrine Niyonkuru’s first-half penalty separated both sides and ultimately won the match for the UNAF (North African) champions.
Niyonkuru scored the winner from the penalty spot while her teammates put up superb defensive discipline to prevent the Brazilians from leveling the scoreline.
Jerry Tshabalala’s side tried to equalize in the second half with efforts, especially from Melinda Kgadiete, going wide.

The result ended Sundowns’ five-match unbeaten record in the tournament since a 4-0 loss to AS FAR FC in the final of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
The loss was Sundowns’ second as far as the tournament is concerned.
FC Masar ended their opponents’ five-game clean sheets and became the third club to score against the South African side in the tournament.

Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens was the first team to score against them in 2022.
AS FAR FC scored four goals against Tshabalala’s side in 2022.
Sundowns will try to return to winning ways against Commerical Bank of Ethiopia FC in their next game.
