2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: USA Claim Bronze Medal Over Netherlands

The United States Women’s U-20 team won the bronze medal match at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia after a 2-1 victory against the Netherlands on Saturday.

The keenly contested encounter was decided after extra time with regulation time ending in a 1-1 draw at the Estadio El Campin, Bogota.
Gisele Thompson set up Allyson Sentnor who converted a strike into the top left corner from outside the box to open scoring for the USA in the 10th minute.
The goal was her third at the tournament.
The Europeans responded in similar manner in the 26th minute as Robine LaCroix was at the end of Fleur Stoit’s pass inside the box before leveling the scoreline.

They hit the crossbar before the end of regulation time and forced USA goalie to a point blank save during extra time.
USA also hit the woodwork before scoring the winning goal with virtually the last chance in the extra time as Nayoni Buikema deflected an attempt into her net in the 119th minute to win the bronze medal match.

The Americans won five of their seven games against Morocco, Paraguay, Mexico, Germany and Netherlands to clinch bronze medal.
The team lost their opening match 1-0 to Spain and the semi final by similar scoreline to North Korea.
Japan and North Korea will face off in the final match on Sunday.
