According to several reports, all emanating from Italy, Napoli have finally found an agreement with Torino for their wanted defender, Alessandro Buongiorno, for a fee said to be around €40m (€35m plus €5m in add-ons).

Their pursuit of the defender has been clear for weeks, but intensified over the last couple of days following a face-to-face meeting between director Giovanni Manna and agent Beppe Riso. The opening offer of €35m including bonuses was rejected.

Tuttosport suggest that Juventus had actually offered more than Napoli this summer, €42m plus €5m in add-ons, but that a sale to their bitter rivals would’ve been too tough to swallow.

It is not quite a done deal yet, as Napoli still need to agree personal terms with the player’s agent.

It is never straightforward for Aurelio De Laurentiis, especially regarding image rights. Sportitalia also claim that Buongiorno wants a release clause in the contract, whereas Napoli are resisting the idea. Apart from Buongiorno, Napoli are also close to signing Real Madrid defender, Rafa Marin.
