Written By Onyeka Daniel
The situation of Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku could be turning into a soap opera with the latest development as the forward is being linked with a new club apart from the usual suspects.
More Details
After spending last season on loan with Inter Milan, the Nerazzurri were poised to sign him on a permanent deal, which was the reason given for their willingness to sell Andre Onana to Manchester United, to raise funds for the Belgian.
But in a sudden twist, the Nerazzurri withdrew from the race after finding out that the player had been negotiating with their bitter rival, Juventus and as things stand now, a move to the Bianconeri looks to be his best option. But they also need to offload Dusan Vlahovic before being able to afford Lukaku, thereby creating an impasse as PSG have so far failed to come forward for Vlahovic.

He’s definitely not short of suitors with reports that a Saudi Arabian club is interested in his services. Initially, when he was angling for a move back to Inter Milan, he had rejected the advances from the Middle East, but with the move now off the table, the player is reported to be opening up to the move.
But now, he could be offered a chance to stay in Europe, leave Chelsea and still not get on the bad books of Nerazzurri faithful by not joining Juventus. Spanish LaLiga side, Atletico Madrid are in need of a striker and with a recent update on a mysterious striker, Lukaku could be the name that has been mentioned so far.
The Los Rojiblancos have been very active in the transfer market so far this summer, with deals for Javi Galan, Caglar Soyuncu, Cesar Azpilicueta and Santiago Mourino having already been completed.
They aren’t done yet, and they are pursuing further targets. Diego Simeone is keen to sign a new defensive midfielder someone to compete with club captain Koke, and Marco Verratti is their top target In that area. According to Ruben Uria, Atletico are also working on a deal to sign a new striker, although the identify of the individual is not yet known.
“BREAKING: Atletico Madrid are working on a striker that hasn’t been reported in the press, and it’s being handled very discreetly. He is an important player.” The sport journalist posted on his official Twitter page.
Alvaro Morata and Joao Felix have both been heavily linked with a move away over the last few weeks, and if either were to depart, Atletico would require a replacement. They appear to have pre-empted the situation, given that a deal is currently being worked on.
It remains to be seen who Atletico Madrid’s mystery striker target is, but a case can be made for Lukaku. He would be a perfect fit to Simeone’s counterattack style of play with his power and strength and could become an instant hit in Spain.
Furthermore, with €40m enough to pry him away from Chelsea, who are looking to offload him anyway, Atletico should be able to afford him if they can find an agreement on personal terms with the player. Should they manage to offload both Morata (AS Roma and Inter Milan) and Felix (Barcelona and Bayern Munich), they should have enough to be able to afford Lukaku.
Meanwhile….
Andre Onana has completed the usual pre-transfer medicals with Manchester United ahead of his move from Inter. The 27-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper, who joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer last year, is moving to Old Trafford in a deal costing €51m plus €4m in add-ons.
He will sign a five-year contract reportedly worth around €7m per year. According to several reports, including Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Onana underwent his medicals with Manchester United at their Carrington training ground today, making it just a matter of time until his move is made official.

There were some concerns regarding a visa for the 27-year-old, but these have seemingly been solved. Having kept 19 cleans sheets and conceded 36 goals across 41 total appearances for Inter, Onana would be replacing David De Gea between the post for the Red Devils.
Abig shoe to fill, but he has shown that he’s the one for the big occasions with his showing in the UCL final against Manchester City. His sale represents a huge capital gain for the Nerazzurri as they try to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.
