It might have been a missed opportunity for Italian giants, AC Milan as Archie Brown is on the verge of joining Turkish club, Fenerbahce, but the Rossoneri have now locked in on a new name for their defense as they’ve reportedly lined up a new offer to Strasbourg for Guéla Doué.

More Details

The right-back is the older brother of Paris Saint-Germain star Désiré and can play as a central defender as well as on the right side of a four-man line. He has been on their radar for quite a while, and after getting beaten once, they’ve probably learnt their lessons.

Consequently, according to a report from Sky Sport Italia, Milan are ready to come back in with a new and improved proposal to the French club. It had been suggested the initial €15m bid was rejected, as the club values him at a minimum of €20m and Milan have made a new offer.

According to L’Equipe, the latest proposal is set at €18m, which is still insufficient. Although Doué made the transfer to Strasbourg from Rennes for under €7m last summer, his value has since soared on the market and the Rossoneri are serious in need of players in their defense.

So far, they’ve sold Theo Hernandez to Al-Hilal and are also looking to offload Emerson Royal whole Kyle Walker’s loan move was not made permanent, hence, they’re currently thin in the wing-back position with Alex Jimenez the only real option, but can play on the right and left.

For Doué, the 22-year-old has decided to play his international football for the Ivory Coast and already amassed five senior caps. Meanwhile, for the KAA Gent left-back, he has revealed what actually went down in his failed move to the Serie A after opting for the Turkish league.

This is not the first time that the Rossoneri have missed out on a transfer target because they were too hesitant and took too long over formulating the right offer and it had been hoped that the appointment of director of sport Igli Tare would speed up the process and prevent a repeat of this pattern.

There was chaos and conflicting reports last night about the situation, with suggestions there were even two private jets waiting for him to choose his destination between Milan and Istanbul and then, this morning, he chose and flew out to join Jose Mourinho and his team.

“The deal was basically done with AC Milan. I was ready to go, but then, I got a call from the Fenerbahce President overnight. That changed everything. The passion he showed, the vision… it made the decision clear. I knew I had to come to Fener.” Brown revealed to Fabrizio Romano.

On the other hand, there is a different version in Italy as it is being reported that while Milan had certainly shown an interest, they were always behind Fenerbahce and it was not so much the value of the transfer fee – which in both cases was around €9m – or the personal terms.

Instead, it was the determination and passion behind the approach and the wing-back is expected to earn €1.5m per season at his new club in a four-year deal with option for a fifth. Only time will tell if they made the right decision, but they’re now wary of making the same mistake with Doué.
