He further revealed that his team has a real emergency following the latest Matteo Darmian injury. Inter beat Lazio 2-0 at San Siro on Tuesday, qualifying for the Coppa Italia semifinals with second half goals from Marko Arnautovic and Hakan Calhanoglu.

“We played a great match against a team of absolute quality, well-organized and with talented players,” Inzaghi told SportMediaset. “We struggled in the first half but did well to break the deadlock. In the second half, we performed much better. Out of necessity, we had to change our formation.”

“I’m proud to be the coach of this team.” Inter will meet their city rivals Milan in the semifinals, which will be played in two months. “We’ll think about it in April. Right now, we have a packed schedule with many games close together,” argued Inzaghi.

“We’re struggling on the flanks, we’re in a real emergency, but we have to keep going. This was the first of six matches in 20 days. We know what lies ahead.” Inter met Lazio without the injured Nicola Zalewski and Carlos Augusto.

Then Matteo Darmian was also forced off the pitch in the first half. “I got a lot of important responses from my players. Some weren’t at their best, but tonight, they didn’t hold back,” Inzaghi continued.

“Frattesi had a serious issue, as did Taremi, but they played without hesitation because they knew the team needed them. They played with painkillers but never backed down.” He continued.

Marko Arnautovic scored a stunning goal to give Inter the lead in the first half, but Inzaghi was asked why the Austrian striker positioned himself outside the box for an Inter corner kick in the build-up as it looked like something out of a training ground routine.

“This morning, we worked on set pieces, and if Lazio kept tall players inside the box, as they did, he had to step out, and that ball came his way. We know his shooting ability,” the coach revealed. Second-choice keeper Josep Martinez kept the second consecutive clean sheet.

He also made some crucial saves to deny Gustav Isaksen. “Martinez is an excellent goalkeeper that the club identified along with three other players,” said Inzaghi. “He had a great season with Genoa. Sommer is having a fantastic season, just like last year. I had already considered giving him his debut.”

“I wasn’t in a rush because I knew he would do well. He’s a serious guy who works quietly. He’s a great professional who trains hard during the week.” He further added. With the former Lazio manager changing his formation in the cup win, it is probably likely that we might see something similar in the upcoming game against Napoli.

With just Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries the only fit wing-backs available at the moment, Inzaghi might be tempted to switch to a 4-4-2 formation on Saturday. Meanwhile, young German defender, Yann Bisseck also talked to the press the Coppa Italia home win.

In his interview with InterTV, he hailed the team’s strength and opened up on his ambitions ahead of the Napoli clash. He returned to the starting line-up after dropping to the bench in recent Serie A matches. Indeed, Benjamin Pavard’s recovery has limited his game time at the San Siro.

However, that hasn’t derailed his spirits, as witnessed by his spotless performance. Bisseck helped Inter secure a second consecutive clean sheet as the Nerazzurri thumped Lazio 2-0. “For us, this is a great win – we want to win in every competition,” Bisseck admitted after the match.

“We played a great game defensively, and I’m happy. In every match, we need to stay focused for 95 minutes, and today we did well. It was a great performance for us. We know we are a very strong team, and it doesn’t matter who plays.”

“We are solid, and other teams struggle to score against us. Personally, I think I had a good game.” However, Bisseck expects a far more challenging contest this weekend.Inter will put their Serie A title hopes on the line against Antonio Conte’s Napoli.

“We’re happy with the win, but Saturday’s match against Napoli will be completely different,” Bisseck added.“We’re prepared, and if we do things right, we can win.” He concluded. A win against the former league leaders will help them open a four point gap at the top of the table.
