The Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Florida over the weekend served up great moments with athletes crushing personal records and breaking new grounds both as students and elite athletes.

18-year-old Erriyon Knighton broke ground to a huge Personal Best (PB) of 10.04s (-0.1) to win the men’s 100m at the Tom Jones Invitational in Florida, holding off Noah Lyles who ran a Season’s Best (SB) of 10.05s.

Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake got 3rd in 10.19s. Shania Collins came out on top of the elite women’s 100m at the Tom Jones Invitational, storming away in an equal Personal Best (PB) of 10.98s (0.9) ahead of Kayla White, 2nd in 11.15s and Liang Xiaojing in 11.18s, just ahead of Ashanti Moore who placed 4th in 11.20s.

Jereem Richards led the men’s 200m Olympic Development at the Tom Jones Invitational with 20.12.Matthew Hudson-Smith ran his fastest time after four years since 2018 to win the Elite Men’s 400m at the Tom Jones Invitational ahead of Alonzo

Russell who finished 2nd overall across two heats in 45.65s and Joe Brier in 45.74s. Shaunae Miller-Uibo opened up her season with a fast 49.91s to take the Elite Women’s 400m at the Tom Jones Invitational, the second fastest time in the world this year.

She bested the field by more than a second as Aliyah Abrams was 2nd in 51.17s and Lina Nielsen, 3rd in 51.64s.

NCAA 60m champion, Melissa Jefferson (11.00) won the University Women’s 100m ahead of Rosemary Chukwuma (11.05) at the Tom Jones Invitational, into a -0.1 headwind no less.

The time is a personal best for Rosemary Chukwuma ran and qualifies her for the World Champs this year.Matthew Boling finally broke 10 seconds legally, powering to a big Personal Best (PB) of 9.98s (1.6) to win the men’s 100m at the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville ahead of Terrence Jones who claimed 2nd in 10.09s and Dedrick Vanover was 3rd in 10.11s.

Trey Cunningham of FSU Track led the men’s 110mH at the Tom Jones Invitational with a winning time of 13.22s (+0.4). Favour Ofili of LSU Track Field became in the new 200m world leader after clocking 21.96s (+1.3) in women’s 200m at the Tom Jones Invitational.

Randolph Ross won the College Men’s 400m at the Tom Jones Invitational in an easy 45.15s, clawing past a strong Ryan Willie who took 2nd in a Personal Best (PB) of 45.16s. Elija Godwin was 3rd overall across all heats in 45.47s.

On April 15 Quincy Hall became the first athlete of the season to drop under 49s in the 400m.Charokee Young clocked 49.87s over 400m at the Tom Jones Invitational, the fastest time in the world this year and the third fastest ever in NCAA history.

She finished ahead of her teammate Tierra Robinson-Jones who ran 50.89s and Talitha Diggs in 51.93s. Morocco’s Moad Zahafi clocked a very fast 1:43.69 over 800m at the Tom Jones Invitational, taking control of the World Lead.

His time is the third fastest ever run in NCAA history only behind Michael Saruni and Donavan Brazier. Nigeria’s Annette Echikunwoke sent her implement out to a big SB of 72.72m to win the women’s Hammer Throw.

She was way ahead of the rest of the field as Jalani Davis finished 2nd with 65.84m while Jasmine Mitchell was 3rd with 63.80m.
