AC Milan Establish Contact For Another Striker As Issues Arises With Zirkzee

Written By Onyeka Daniel

When it was reported that AC Milan would be looking to sign a striker in the summer, it seemed pretty straight forward, with the club budgeting at least, €50m to spend in that area and having a list of targets, but it’s starting to look more complicated than first imagined.

More Details

The Rossoneri are looking to sign a striker ahead of next season, following Olivier Giroud’s departure, and several targets are on their radar. Santiago Gimenez is one of them and he’s indeed a concrete one, following ‘several’ meetings with the club.

Giroud has said goodbye to the Rossoneri, making his final appearance in the friendly against Roma yesterday, and a new era is now upon. The likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko are both at the top of the wish list, but there is another name to keep an eye on as well.

Sesko is now report to be close to joining Arsenal after his agent hinted that Italian clubs, Milan in particular could be priced out of a move. Then for Zirkzee, the player is said to be open to the idea of joining, but there are also many clubs interested in his service.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Santiago Gimenez is a concrete target for the Rossoneri after having had ‘several’ meetings with the club. Coming off a 26-goal season with Feyenoord, the latter have landed on an initial price tag of around €50m.

The cost would be similar to Zirkzee and Sesko, in other words, but it could still be an ‘easier’ operation for Milan to make. Zirkzee’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, is asking for very high commission fees.

In any case, Gimenez is a concrete target for the Rossoneri and shouldn’t be forgotten amid all the rumours about Zirkzee and Sesko. The 23-year-old has impressed Geoffrey Moncada and his team a lot, but it remains to be seen if a move will be made.

Former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi identified Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram as the one player he would have loved to coach. The Frenchman joined the club last summer on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach. He then exceeded the expectations of many by immediately revealing himself as a pillar in the starting lineup.

The 26-year-old formed a great partnership with club captain Lautaro Martinez. The two strikers spearheaded the club’s charge towards the Serie A title. In a recent interview, Sacchi was asked to name a Serie A player he would have liked to have at his disposal. The 78-year-old chose the France international for his generosity and physical attributes.

“I would say Marcus Thuram,” said the former Milan and Italy manager in his interview with Libero. “The Frenchman really impressed me this season with his generosity, strength and desire to improve. “I coached his father Lillian during my time at Parma. He was a phenomenon as a player and a person. Very intelligent.”

It should be recalled that the player was close to joining Milan in the last summer transfer window, before Inter swooped in with an offer of their own, slightly higher than that of their rival to deal the move. Sacchi also had words of praise for Inter manager Simone Inzaghi, hailing his great progress in recent campaigns.

“This season, I should also mention Inzaghi among the top managers. “Simone has evolved a lot, becoming more and more of a strategist. The leap in quality that his Inter made during his time at the club speaks for itself.” He further added.

Inzaghi has been at the helm of the Nerazzurri since 2021 when he arrived as a replacement for Antonio Conte. He has thus far won six titles in three campaigns at San Siro. He finally lifted the Scudetto trophy after falling short on the previous two occasions.
