AC Milan On The Trail Of Sassuolo Star, But First They’ve To Resolve The Issue Of Their Next Coach

Written By Onyeka Daniel

With the current situation of things at AC Milan, it is largely expected that Stefano Pioli’s reign head coach is all but over, with just a few games to go until the end of the season. For Next Season, some changes are expected, not just for their managerial role, but in the players too.

More Details

The Rossoneri are expected to sign a new holding midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window, and they are evaluating the prospect of signing a player from a side threatened with relegation. Ahead of the summer, reports have been filled by the suggestions of central defenders and strikers.

However, as we approach the window, reports of a new holding midfielder arriving are increasing in numbers. Milan’s current midfield situation is comfortable, and there is enough depth to get by. However, persistent injuries mean that there has to be a greater level of coverage to support the continuing problems.

Therefore, they will enter the market for a defensive midfielder as Ismael Bennacer is expected to leave, according to a report from Calciomercato. The report further put forth a name that is becoming a prospect to the Rossoneri’s management, Daniel Boloca from Sassuolo.

The Neroverdi are stumbling towards relegation to Serie B, but Boloca’s performances have not been worthy of a relegation-threatened side, let alone a side that falls victim to the drop. Born in 1998, the holding midfielder has a lot of room for growth, which could be further aided by a move to Milan.

And for a fee of €15 million, he provides an intriguing opportunity that fits the mould of what the Diavolo want in the midfield toolbox. But his signing will probably not be sanctioned until they’ve brought in a new manager.

Everyone knows Pioli’s inevitable fate, and he has shown signs of this in his recent press conferences. However, the club are sticking to their word and will wait until the end of the season to announce that they will change their head coach.

An option that remains viable, though, is Roberto De Zerbi, and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Diavolo have enquired about his services and have had a response. As a manager, De Zerbi fits the profile of what Milan desires – a young head coach with an innovative brand of football that excites. Above all, though, he has an exceptional record with improving young talent.

He also has an experience in the League having coached Sassuolo in past before his adventure abroad. There is a drawback to this – it will cost €15 million to release him from his contract with Brighton, and chances of a discount on this are slim. It is largely expected that the pathway towards Julen Lopetegui has gone cold and is not going to be revived again after fans protest.
