Written By Onyeka Daniel

For AC Milan, there’s no doubt whatsoever that they will be having a new manager for next season, but the Rossoneri will have to wait a few more weeks before learning whether Sergio Conceiçao will be their next coach, but the club will also not fail to strengthen other areas of the team.

Hence, they will be looking for four main targets this summer: a centre-forward to replace Olivier Giroud, a defensive midfielder to replace Ismael Bennacer, a centre-back and a right-back to replace Davide Calabria, who can potentially play on the left wing as well.

According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are in talks with the agents of Tottenham defender Emerson Royal, but Spurs want at least €30m for the 25-year-old. Milan are interested in the player and have been in talks with the defender’s representatives for a few weeks.

The report further claims that Milan have been following the former Barcelona defender for a while and preliminary talks with the 25-year-old started a few weeks ago. The problem for the Rossoneri is Spurs’ asking price, which is around €30m.

The Serie A giants are unwilling to match Tottenham’s request and may invest such a hefty sum in any right-back only if they complete a big-money sale, but at that point, they’d also need to replace whoever leaves.Club directors will make their assessments over the last few weeks.

But the Brazilian defender with 23 appearances at a club level this term, is a possible reinforcement for the Diavolo. The player is said to be keen to move on after falling behind Pedro Porro in Angel Postelogu’s lineup for the EPL side.

For Conceicao, the first meeting between him and new Porto president André Villas-Boas was inconclusive. It feels like the cohabitation wouldn’t be too smooth. It remains to be seen whether one of the two will make the first step toward a divorce, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport. The chairman might want to hire somebody closer to him.

But it’d be an unpopular decision given the gaffer’s success in recent years. If the split happens, it’ll probably have to be the boss who initiates it thanks to a clause in his contract. Milan have Conceiçao at the top of their wish list but won’t meddle with Porto. They aren’t necessarily in a hurry yet given that there are still three matches to play.

Pioli will have a warm sendoff. In the meantime, Paulo Fonseca has received a strong offer from Marseille. He’s more likely to wind up there than with the Rossoneri. They want to see it through with the other Portuguese manager first. They’d go back to the well if they missed out on him. A surprise candidate can’t be ruled out. In any case, it won’t be somebody who’s working in Serie A currently.

For Pioli, he’s expected to sit down with the club directors at the end of the season with his exit a mere formality, instead, they will be discussing some form of severance package for him to facilitate his exit. But he’s not expected to be out of work for long as Napoli are prepared to offer him a two years contract plus an option for a third to come take over from Francesco Calzona for the 2024-25 Serie A Season.
