The Nigerian’s absence Is fuelled by his protest against the decision of the club not to agree a deal with Inter during the summer transfer window. Atalanta’s summer was dominated by the saga around Lookman, who went on strike after a failed transfer to the former Serie A champions.
Multiple sources in Italy, including Gazzetta, claim that Lookman resumed training with the rest of the Atalanta squad today, Thursday, his first time since August this year as he appeared to sever ties with the club after they rejected Inter’s €45m offer last month.
According to reports, Lookman had a chat with Juric before today’s training session and also spoke to his teammates, explaining that he had had a tough summer but insisting that he’s now ready and motivated to help the team this season after failing to secure a move away from the club.
Now, he could be available for the next Serie A match against Torino as they returned to training today after a heavy 4-0 loss against PSG in their UCL opener on Wednesday night, which is their first defeat this season after playing two draws and one win previously in the Serie A.
Meanwhile, for the captain of the team, Marten De Roon, he has revealed that the team was willing to welcome the Super Eagles forward back into the team when his days of being frozen out of the first team are over as he spoke about the situation in a recent interview.
Already, Juric and club director Luca Percassi have both insinuated attitude problems with Lookman, but the captain says the player will be welcomed as soon as the standoff is over. “He (Lookman) didn’t bother us, I don’t want to waste too much time.” He started out with in the interview.

”We’re focusing on the team and who’s there. We’re always here, and I think there will always be an opening for Lookman,” De Roon continued. During the summer transfer window, the club made it clear that Lookman would only leave for a permanent transfer and at a fee of €50m.
Plus they were not willing to sell to a fellow league rival, hence Inter’s bid fell short and they also have the upper hand as the player still has two years left in his current contract with the club, but there is a chance that he could still leave during before his contract expires.

In three seasons at the club, he has scored 52 goals and 25 assists in 112 appearances and remaining at Atalanta, at least until January remains Lookman’s only option. He was further linked with Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, but the transfer window in that part of Europe also closed on September 12.
