Perhaps, this is why the latest transfer situation in Italy has taken a whole new dimension. According to several reports, Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso has blocked Nico Gonzalez’s transfer to Juventus, while Inter have stepped up attempts to sign Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa, with the two situations related.

Gonzalez’s proposed transfer to Juventus may collapse despite an agreement between club directors. The Bianconeri had shaken hands over a €30m deal, but according to several reports from Italy, Fiorentina President Commisso has blocked the transfer.

According to the reports, Commisso is unwilling to sell the recent Copa America winner, which may be related to Fiorentina’s struggles to sign the Iceland international.

It is believed that Inter are still interested in Gudmundsson and remain in the race to sign the Grifone ace, and with the recent exit of Mateo Retegui, they won’t want to loss two important assets upfront, without adequate replacement, which is why they need to sign Gudmundsson first, before allowing Gonzalez to leave.

According to a report from Gazzetta, Inter may try to get Gudmundsson on a loan swap deal involving Marko Arnautovic even if the Austria international’s salary is too high for Genoa, with the other option being Joaquin Correa, a player Genoa would be less open to.

Despite the recent claims by Beppe Marotta, talks between Inter and Genoa have resumed while Nico Gonzalez does not seem close to joining Juventus anymore. This could give Atalanta the upper hand in the race for the Argentine, a race they seemed to have lost to Juve.

On the other hand, there’s another possible business between the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri after the agent of out-of-favour Italian forward Federico Chiesa met with Inter Milan and AC Milan about the possibility of a transfer, according to FCInterNews.

The report has it that both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri were lukewarm on the prospect of signing Chiesa, with the former citing tactical. A move to either the Nerazzurri or the Rossoneri would represent a chance for Chiesa to continue playing Champions League football.

And he would be staying within Serie A. But according to the report, the two Milanese clubs don’t seem to be interested at the moment. In the case of the Nerazzurri, it is not as though they are not keeping an eye on Chiesa’s situation.

However, there are a couple of reasons why Inter are unlikely to sign Chiesa this summer. Firstly, Inter would be more inclined to pursue a deal for Chiesa on a free transfer next summer. That would be when his contract with Juventus expires.

Then, there is the matter of the former Fiorentina winger’s tactical fit. There are significant doubts about how the Italian international would function in Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system. Chiesa is not particularly adept at playing as an out-and-out forward.

He has a tendency to drift into wide positions. But on the other hand, Chiesa does not really have the legs to play in a wingback role.It was for this reason that the 26-year-old found that his playing time dwindled last season at Juventus under Massimiliano Allegri.

This opened the door for teenager Kenan Yildiz to become a regular starter. But of course, unlike Allegri, Simone Inzaghi is not rigid in his approach, and should be able to find a position for Chiesa in his team if a move should materialize.
