The Saudi Pro League reigning champions are currently not in their best form and that caused Nuno Espírito Santo his job.

Marcelo Gallardo has been brought in to replace the Portuguese and the Argentine is looking forward to his debut in the competition.

His focus is on the game which could mean much in the race to finish top of the group.

“The meeting is important because winning means clinching the lead for us.”

‎”I have good information about Uzbek football. The game is developed here and I watched their team in the Junior World Cup. He said during his press conference ahead of the game.

“‎I need more time to implement my training ideas.” He concluded.

Al Ittihad shockingly lost to Air Force in their last game, a result that contributed to the sacking of Espírito Santo.

One of their summer recruits Fabinho has spoken about the club’s target in the tournament.

The Brazilian who was signed from Liverpool last summer admitted the UEFA Champions League is the biggest club competition in the world but opined the Asian equivalent has also gained reputation.

“The Champions League is the strongest club tournament in the world, but the AFC Champions League has also developed.” He said.

‎”It is not an excuse…but absences due to injury contributed to our loss to Air Force.

‎”Our goal is not only to top the group… but also to place first in the entire tournament.”

Fabinho, recalled, won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool in the 2018/2019 season and would hope to repeat that feat with his new club in the Asian version of that tournament.
