The AFC Champions League Elite will not literally be at elite level without the domineering SPL Clubs.



Still in its first season following the reform, this season’s Champions League Elite has seen the three Saudi Arabian clubs set the pace at the top.

With the seventh game of the group phase now in full swing, the top three spots are occupied by teams from the MiddleEast nation.

Al Ahli’s 3-1 away win over Qatar’s Al Sadd propelled them to the top of the pack pending when Al Hilal play their seventh.

Al Nassr consolidated their 3rd spot with a convincing 4-0 win over Al Wasl. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace in the game.

For both clubs, their newest acquisitions were immediately thrown into the fray as the season thickens.

Jhon Duran, a multimillion dollars signing from Aston Villa started and saw the full 90 minutes for Al Nassr while Galeno played the last twelve minutes of his side’s win.

None of the players was able to open their accounts for their new clubs as attention now shifts to the domestic league.

Al Hilal host Persepolis on Tuesday for a chance to regain top spot after Al Ahli’s temporary move to the summit.
