AFCON 2023: “My Players’ Deserve The Praise For Playing A Good Game”

Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro has said that the team victory was more important than how they played against the Palancas Negras of Angola, this came shortly after Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Angola at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, admitting that his players’ deserved all the praises for getting the job done.

The Super Eagles had to work hard for the victory against the Palancas Negras side that had exceeded expectations in reaching the last eight.

Nigeria dominated the early exchanges with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen denied by the crossbar from Ademola Lookman’s pinpoint cross.

But on the stroke of half-time, Moses Simon turned provider, slipping in Lookman who slotted calmly beyond goalkeeper Guilherme da Costa to give Nigeria the lead.

“My players deserve the praise because we played a great match, we didn’t concede any goals but we could score more if we had played better but people all over the world are happy in this moment all over the world so it’s good for us”, Jose Peseiro stated in an interview with Bettitude’s correspondent Oluwayemi Olowolagba.

“The team could have created more chances. We are a quality team. Angola were a very good team but we were out of luck. Once again, we played without conceding, we scored a goal, but I would have liked us to score more. I remain satisfied with the performance of my players so far”.

Nigeria will face the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final between Cape Verde and South Africa for a place in the final.
