Named in the Group Stage XI, Brahim Díaz was one of the standout performers of the tournament’s opening phase. Operating just behind the strikers, his creativity, vision and technical quality consistently caught the eye.

His close control, intelligent movement and dribbling regularly unsettled opposition defenses while he often served as the spark for Morocco’s attacking play. The Morocco forward tops the scoring chart with four goals in four appearances, continuing his superb form on home soil. His decisive strike against Tanzania in the Round of 16 not only sent the hosts into the quarter-finals but also opened clear daylight at the top of the scorers’ table, underlining his importance to Morocco’s title push.

Díaz’s international career has taken a defining turn since he opted to represent Morocco over Spain. What once seemed an uncertain path with La Roja has evolved into a starring role with the Atlas Lions, where the Real Madrid attacker has emerged as one of AFCON 2025’s most influential figures.

He made his debut on March 21, 2024, in a friendly against Angola, and has since recorded an impressive 12 goals in 19 appearances. More than just an attacking option, Díaz has become a focal point in Morocco’s offensive setup, blending creativity, goals and leadership in key moments.

Brahim Díaz arrived at AFCON 2025 under scrutiny after a run of below-par performances in the build-up to the tournament, but he has emphatically answered his critics. In doing so, the forward has equalled a long-standing national record. By scoring in three consecutive matches, Díaz matched a feat set 49 years ago by Ahmed Faras, Morocco’s all-time leading scorer.

Operating primarily from the right, Díaz has become a key source of attacking thrust, with teammates regularly looking to him to spark forward momentum. Around 40% of Morocco’s attacks have flowed down the right flank as per Squawka, the seventh-highest proportion at the tournament while his 154 touches rank fifth among the Atlas Lions, underlining his influence on their attacking play.

Although not Morocco’s main creative outlet, Díaz has consistently been on the end of chances. His 11 shots are more than any other player for the hosts, while his 1.95 expected goals ranks third overall at AFCON 2025. Opponents have clearly identified him as the primary threat too, fouling him nine times, second only to Azzedine Ounahi (12) in Walid Regragui’s side.

Unsurprisingly, Díaz has emerged as one of the leading contenders for the AFCON 2025 MVP award. Should Morocco go on to lift the trophy on home soil, it would only strengthen the case for the winger to claim individual honours, especially if he continues to drive his nation’s push for glory.
