Following narrow 1-0 opening wins—Ivory Coast over Mozambique and Cameroon over Gabon—both sides displayed the same defensive resilience that defined their first matches.

This resulted in a cagey first half with limited scoring chances. However, the high-profile crowd, featuring stars like Kylian Mbappé, Jules Koundé, and Aurélien Tchouaméni, witnessed a moment of brilliance when Ivory Coast goalkeeper Yahia Fofana made a vital save, tipping Christian Kofane’s powerful strike onto the woodwork.

After a relatively quiet first half, the match exploded into life following the interval with a flurry of action before the 60-minute mark. The drama began when Franck Kessié had a goal disallowed for offside, followed immediately by Danny Namaso striking the woodwork with a deflected shot.
