The humanitarian situation in Sudan remains dire; since the conflict between the national army and the Rapid Support Forces erupted in April 2023, approximately 150,000 lives have been lost. The violence has triggered the world’s most severe displacement crisis, forcing nearly 14 million people from their homes.

“I’m happy that Sudan is part of such a big tournament,” Appiah told a press conference on Tuesday, on the eve of their Group E game against Algeria.

“We are here to make sure we do our best to entertain everyone who comes to the stadium.”
The coach explained that while his primary focus is on strategy, the team frequently faces the harsh reality of players losing family members to the ongoing conflict. Despite these personal tragedies, he emphasized their collective resilience and patience, driven by the goal of bringing a sense of pride to the people of Sudan.
