The match which took place at the Grande Stade de Tangier pitched the West Africans against the Arabian nation.
Surprisingly, it was Sudan who raced into an early lead in Tangier thanks to Aamir Abdallah’s 6th minute effort.
It sent shocking waves across the stadium as one of the tournament favourites went behind in the very first knockout match of the competition.
Determined to recover from the early shock, Senegal launched a barrage of attack at Sudan’s goal but Monged El Neel was equal to the task.
The 2021 champions would be rewarded just before the half hour mark when Pape Gueye met Sadio Mane’s ball to level the scores.
Ten minutes later, Senegal thought they won themselves a penalty but VAR review detected an offside in the buildup
Pape Gueye would however put the one time winners ahead for the first time in the game when he converted from close range thanks to an assist from Nicolas Jackson.
The second half saw both sides fighting to lay claim to the game with Senegal retaining control despite Sudan’s efforts.
The game remained deadlocked in the second half as Sudan repelled everything thrown at them by the Senegalese team.

It took the intervention of substitute Ibrahim Mbaye to seal the game for Senegal in the 77th minute, his well taken effort beating El Neel in goal for Sudan.
Pape Thiaw’s side advances to the last 8 and becomes the first side to reach that stage in this year’s tournament.
They face the winners of the tie between Mali and Tunisia later in the day for a place in the semi finals.
