AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Cruise Past Mambas Into Quarter Finals
Nigeria’s senior men’s national team set personal and tournament record with a 4-0 win over Mozambique in the Round of 16 of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Complexe de Fes on Monday.

A brace from Victor Osimhen and hat trick of assists by Ademola Lookman lifted the Super Eagles to a comprehensive win against the Mambas which is making their first ever appearance at AFCON group stage.
Osimhen thought he had opened scoring for the three time African champions in the second minute only for the goal to be ruled out for an offside.
In the 20th minute, Akor Adams set up Lookman who broke the deadlock.
Five minutes later, Lookman’s cross was poked home by Osimhen for the second goal as Eric Chelle’s side had a two goal lead at half time.

Two minutes after the restart, Lookman for the second time in the match assisted Osimhen who tapped in Nigeria’s third goal.
The Atalanta forward provided a pass to Adams who made it 4-0 with a good strike into the too corner from a tight angle.
The match was the first time that Nigeria will keep a clean sheet at AFCON 2025.

The team also became the first side to score four goals in a match at this year’s tournament.
Super Eagles for the first time in their AFCON appearances won their first four matches.
They awaits the winner of the clash between Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the quarter final.
