The result sees SA top Group G with four points, while Ghana remain on three. Zimbabwe and Ethiopia – who meet in Bahir Dar on Tuesday – are on one and zero points respectively.
Like South Africa, Liberia also left it late against Central Africa Republic to move second in Group C.
Kpah Sherman scored the lone goal for the Liberians with just four minutes left on the clock.

Cote d’Ivoire raised their tally to four points on top of the group, one more than second placed Cameroon. Malawi takes on Mozambique in the group’s other game on Tuesday.
