Agent Gives Thumb Up As West Ham Target German Midfielder To Replace Declan Rice
Written By Onyeka Daniel
It’s been days now since West Ham United agreed a record fee with Arsenal over the transfer of England midfielder, Declan Rice and since then, the Hammers have been on the lookout for a replacement as they prepare to do well in the EPL and in the Europa League for the coming season, without their captain and influential midfielder.
More Details
So far, several names have been mentioned as a possible replacement, from Edson Alvarez of Ajax to Denis Zakaria of Juventus who spent last season on loan at Chelsea, but a new name could be on the list. Bayern Munich midfielder, Leon Goretzka is the new name on the block and he would be a perfect fit for Rice, that is it West Ham can convince the Bavarians to sell him.

The midfielder boasts almost 200 appearances for the Bundesliga club, while he has made over 50 appearances for the German national team. According to football agent, Jon Smith a move to West Ham is possible.
The agent believes the Hammers “might well” land the 28-year-old this summer as a replacement for Rice. “I’m not sure how much of the money that West Ham have sucked in from Arsenal is going to be spent because the Rice deal is being paid over two years,” Smith said.
“They won’t have it all in one go anyway. Leon Goretzka is out there to be done, somebody will get him and it might well be West Ham.” He further added. West Ham supporters are still reeling from the loss of their star man.
His exit will leave a huge hole in the club’s midfield, with David Moyes trying his best to fill that hole as soon as possible ahead of the new season. But according to sports journalist, Dean Jones, this is a move that probably won’t get out of the starting blocks.
Speaking on a recent Podcast, Jones stated that he would be really surprised if Goretzka ended up coming to the Premier League, claiming that he would be absolutely stunned if he did end up at West Ham. Jones shared his verdict on these rumours.
“You are seeing new names now brought to the table, Leon Goretzka was linked the other day, but I can’t see Goretzka coming to the Premier League, let alone to West Ham, but it’s the new guy Tim Steidten, he’s got a handle on recruitment and he’s bringing new names to the table now,” Jones said. Apart from West Ham, Liverpool are also linked with the player and they would most likely win the race for hos signature if he becomes available ahead of the Hammers.

The Brazilian midfielder has been making a real name for himself at Villa Park over the past few years, and it’s felt like a move to one of the so-called big six clubs has been beckoning for a little while. In fact, Luiz very nearly made the switch to north London this time last year.
He was the subject of multiple bids from Arsenal on deadline day last summer, but, in the end, he snubbed the Gunners and signed a new contract at Villa Park. After another successful season in the Midlands, Luiz is, once again, being targeted for a move to north London, but this time, it’s Tottenham who want to bring him in. But first, they will look to conclude a deal for Giovanni Lo Celso before making a move for Luiz.
