Swedish Dammalsvenskan side, AIK Fotboll has agreed with midfielder Agnes Nyberg on a two-year contract that extends over the 2023 season.

21-year-old Agnes joined from IK Uppsala Fotboll and has played 20 matches in the Damallsvenskan.

“Agnes is a defensively solid game distributor with a good eye for the game and she is the type of player that we were looking for. One of the prominent players of the coming years who is already at a really good level in his position as an inner midfielder. I look forward to following her development in the AIK shirt,” says the women’s team manager Anne Mäkinen on the club website.

“It feels fantastic fun to sign for AIK. It is a club that has the same ambitions as me and I hope to be able to help the team move forward. I am very much looking forward to starting the 2022 season,” says Agnes Nyberg.

21-year-old Agnes Nyberg, born on Wednesday 19 April 2000 at the University Hospital in Uppsala and raised in Fålhagen in her hometown, started playing football at the mother club Vaksala SK in Uppsala at the age of seven.

In December 2014, she left the parent club for IK Sirius FK, which played in Elitettan. The competition debut took place in the second round of the Swedish Cup 2015/2016 when they faced Tierps IF (2-0) at Vegavallen in Tierp on 19 August 2015.

Agnes started on the bench in jersey number 22 under coach Olof Unogård’s management and replaced Tempest-Marie Norlin in the 65th minute of the match. Two former AIK players were also selected in the away team’s match squad; Maja Andersson and Moa Mattsson.

In 2016, she was a regular in the squad and played 21 matches, of which eleven from the start, and accounted for three goals when IK Sirius FK finished in fourth place in the Elite, ten points behind Hammarby IF DFF who took second place in the Damallsvenskan.

On 14 May 2016 when IK Sirius FK met Östersunds DFF (1-0) at Lötens IP in Uppsala, the first goal came for Agnes Nyberg when she scored the winning goal behind goalkeeper Emelie Almesjö in the 20th minute of the match. The other two goals came at home against IFK Kalmar (3–2) on 20 August 2016 and at home against Sundsvalls DFF (5–0) on 24 September 2016. There were also three matches, one of which from the start, in the Swedish Cup during the year.

The women’s team in IK Sirius FK became IK Uppsala Fotboll instead of 2017 and kept its place in the Elite. Before the season, Agnes Nyberg changed jersey numbers from 22 to 6. In 2017, IK Uppsala Fotboll finished eight in Elitettan and Agnes Nyberg played 24 matches, of which 20 from the start. There were also two matches from the start for her in the Swedish Cup when the club qualified for the group game 2017/2018.

In 2018, there were 23 matches in the Elite, of which 18 from the start, when they finished in eighth place in the table, one point ahead of AIK. There were also two cup matches in the starting eleven during the year when IK Uppsala Fotboll qualified for the group game 2018/2019.

Before the 2019 season, Agnes Nyberg took over the team captaincy from Moa Mattsson, who left the club after seven seasons. IK Uppsala Fotboll accounted for a strong season and before the last round, they were in third place in Elitettan, two points behind Hammarby IF DFF which they met at Hammarby IP in a decisive match for a place in OBOS Damallsvenskan 2020. Agnes Nyberg started the match with the team captain’s band around the left arm in front of 3,100 spectators on October 27, 2019, and the home team connected the grip on the Allsvenskan place when they had 1-0 at the break. Marika Bergman Lundin, Sara Olai, and Beata Olsson, however, accounted for their respective goals in the second half and shocked the large audience when it was IK Uppsala Fotboll who after the result advanced 3-1 to OBOS Damallsvenskan.

Agnes Nyberg played 22 matches in Elitettan, of which 20 from the start, and accounted for one goal, away against Asarums IF FK (6-0) on 26 May 2019. She also started five matches in the Swedish Cup during the year.

The start of the football series 2020 was postponed due to the pandemic covid-19 up to June. On 27 June 2020, IK Uppsala Fotboll played its first match in the OBOS Damallsvenskan when they hosted Djurgårdens IF FF (3–2) at Studenternas IP in Uppsala, and Agnes Nyberg started on the bench. In the 79th minute of the match, she replaced Ida Strömblad at the position 1-2 and contributed to the turnaround when they won 3-2 after a winning goal by Beata Olsson in stoppage time.

However, there were only three victories and a total of ten points during the debut season in the country’s highest series and they thus had to take the step down into the Elite again. Agnes Nyberg played 20 league matches, of which twelve from the start, and was noted for a goal-scoring pass. She also played a match in the Swedish Cup 2020/2021.

In October 2020, IK Uppsala Fotboll announced that they had signed a new two-year contract with Agnes Nyberg.

In the 2021 season, IK Uppsala Fotboll finished in fourth place in Elitettan, and Agnes played in 25 of the 26 league matches, of which 23 from the start. She missed a match due to suspension for three yellow cards. There were two goals for the team captain during the season, at home against Bollstanäs SK (6–1) on 2 May 2021 and at home against Mallbackens IF Sunne (3–1) on 15 May 2021.

It was a dramatic end to the series when IK Uppsala Fotboll and IF Brommapojkarna in the last round settled for third place, behind Umeå IK FF and IFK Kalmar, which gave games in OBOS Damallsvenskan 2022. When BP decided its home meeting with Älvsjö AIK FF (5-0), IK Uppsala Fotboll had to defeat Jitex Mölndal BK in front of 1,243 spectators at home at Studenternas IP and with the score of 1-1 the home team bet everything forward which gave two setbacks in the final minutes and a loss of 1-3.

She also played two matches in the Swedish Cup during the year. During the years in IK Uppsala Football, Agnes also played seven league matches with the club’s F19 team.

In July 2015, Agnes Nyberg was called to her first national team camp for F15 / 00 at the Swedish Sports Confederation’s development center Bosön. She played her first international match with the F15 national team when they met Norway (2–2) in front of 259 spectators on Fart artificial turf in Norway. Agnes started the match in jersey number 15 and had been awarded the team captain’s tie by the national team captain Yvonne Ekroth until she was replaced before the second half. When the Swedish F17 national team met Malta (3-0) in the European Championship qualifier at Pampeloponnisiako Stadio in Patras, Greece on October 6, 2016, Agnes answered for her first national team goal when she made it 2-0 in the 64th minute of the match. So far, there have been 32 U19 / U17 internationals and two goals. The most recent international match she played with the F19 national team was in April 2019. In October 2019, she sat on the bench in two matches when the Swedish U23 national team met the Netherlands.
