Spain international Aitana Bonmatí has been discharged from hospital after recovering from a bout of viral meningitis, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed on Sunday.

The Barcelona midfielder is expected to rejoin the national team in the coming days as Spain finalizes preparations for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Bonmatí, 27, had been hospitalized for several days and missed Spain’s 3-1 friendly victory over Japan on Friday.
Her return will be a welcome boost for La Roja, who are looking to carry their recent momentum into the tournament following a historic run of international success.

Widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, Bonmatí was named FIFA Women’s Player of the Year in both 2023 and 2024.
She has earned 78 caps for Spain, scoring 30 goals, and played a central role in their 2023 Women’s World Cup triumph and their UEFA Nations League win later that year.

Spain will begin their Euro 2025 campaign against Portugal on July 3, before facing Belgium and Italy in Group B.
