Aitana Bonmatí Out For Five Months After Fibula Fracture As Spain Lift Nations League Title
Spain’s Aitana Bonmatí has been ruled out long term after the Barcelona midfielder fractured her fibula in training ahead of Thursday’s decisive two-legged Nations League finale.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner left the national team camp to undergo further evaluation in Barcelona, with the club confirming she will miss approximately five months following surgery.
The 27-year-old is now set to miss at least five upcoming club matches, including key UEFA Women’s Champions League fixtures against Benfica and Paris FC.
Already depleted, Spain entered today’s clash with Germany without their midfield talisman as they sought to secure the Nations League trophy after a tense 0–0 draw in Friday’s first leg.
Despite Bonmatí’s absence, La Roja delivered a commanding performance in the return fixture, defeating Germany 3–0.

In an emotional gesture, the players held Bonmatí’s jersey during the pre-match team photo, dedicating the victory to their sidelined star.
Spain’s triumph capped an inspiring display of depth and resilience, but the long-term loss of Bonmatí poses a major setback for both club and country heading into 2026.
