Real Madrid have announced that David Alaba has tested positive to Coronavirus. The news was officially announced on the club’s official website moments ago.
” Real Madrid C. F. would like to notify that our player, David Alaba, has tested positive for COVID-19.” the statement read.
Alaba joined the Spanish giants on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Bayern Munich – the club where he spent thirteen years – expired.
The 29-year-old was handed the number 4 jersey that was vacated by Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos, who left the club this summer upon expiry of his contract to join Paris Saint Germain in France.
The versatile Austrian is expected to stay in mandatory self isolation for at least a couple of weeks until he fully recovers from the virus, and it could mean that he might not make his competitive debut for the club when the La Liga season kicks off on August 13.
