The 23 year old was a shock subject of transfer speculation away from the Nerazzurri before he and his agent came out publicly to reveal that he doesn’t want to leave the club after fans had also protested against the move.
He told the Italian daily that he hopes to stay with Inter for so many years and is focused on winning titles with the team after links first emerged of a move to Tottenham in June.
“I’m happy to be there, I still see myself for many years with this shirt and, in the meantime, I hope to win a lot more”
“I have never had the slightest doubt about leaving Inter, here I have everything I need to feel good and express myself at my best: I am great with my teammates, with the club, I love Milan and therefore why go elsewhere? “
The 23 year old hasn’t looked back since breaking into the Nerazzurri team in 2018 after a successful loan spell at Parma and while discussing the speculation surrounding defensive partner Milan Skriniar, he said he hopes that the club keeps the Slovak at the club.
”Skriniar has integrated perfectly over the years and we have integrated with him in the department that we have built together. Plus, he’s my best friend. It would be a real shame if he left us right now, I hope he stays. I think we will still do many great things together “
“Keeping our backbone is crucial and I’m not just referring to Italians like me or Nicolò. There are guys like Handanovic and Skriniar, who may not be Italian by nationality, but embody the Inter spirit: they too are decisive in keeping him in the group”
Asked about the team that he sees as the most challenging to Inter’s title aspirations, he simply chose Juventus for the smart work they’ve done in the Mercato.
“Juve has strengthened a lot, I see her as the most dangerous opponent. He took many strong players like Di Maria, Pogba and Bremer: it will be an armoured.”
On Bonucci’s assertion that Juve is back: “It’s true, but it’s also true that Inter never left… We know our qualities and our strength, we won the Scudetto two years ago and we have everything to repeat ourselves”.
Meanwhile…
Bastoni was also asked about the return of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku and he said nothing has changed about the 29 year old who left a year ago for Chelsea.
“The exact same beautiful person and the same great striker. I wasn’t impressed by his choice: when you’re so comfortable somewhere, you want to go back somehow. It’s a natural and human feeling. We welcomed it back to the end, there are neither regrets nor remorse: it is enough just that it now makes us win like 2 years ago.”

The Italian international believes Lukaku will have no problems adapting under Simone Inzaghi as his qualities speak for themselves.
Romelu we know him, we know what incredible qualities he has regardless of the technician: his physicality makes the difference, but our game will continue to be proactive, offensive, courageous, as you have seen. And we hope that, within this system, Romelu will score a lot of goals as he has always done. And to help him he has other great attackers such as Lautaro, Correa and Dzeko.”
