More Details

In his one and only season in France, he scored 14 goals in 35 games, guiding the club to a top four finish. Sánchez’s contract expired at the end of the campaign, and there was uncertainty as to whether it would be renewed.

AMarseille have recruited heavily in the forward positions. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ismaila Sarr, Iliman Ndiaye and now Joaquín Correa have all arrived to bolster Marcelino’s attacking options. There was therefore no space for Sánchez, whose return to Inter Milan has now been confirmed.

Before leaving, however, the Chilean international addressed a video to the Marseille fans on Instagram, detailing how it was never his intention to leave the club. “I had excellent moments here and I’ll keep great memories. A big thank you to the people of Marseille, who always supported me, in the good and the bad moments. I also wanted to clear some things up: I always wanted to stay at Marseille.

“That didn’t just depend on me. You need two to make an agreement. The technical management had other choices, which I respect,” he said. As announced today, Sanchez has now officially rejoined Inter, returning on a one-year deal understood to be worth around €2.8m net plus add-ons.

This was made possible after the French club signed Joaquin Correa from Inter on loan and Sanchez was brought in to be the fourth striker for Simone Inzaghi. Sanchez has become Inter’s 10th signing of the summer transfer window, following Yann Bisseck, Yann Sommer, Davide Frattesi, Marcus Thuram, Juan Cuadrado, Carlos Augusto, Emil Audero, Raffaele Di Gennaro and Marko Arnautovic.

During his first spell at the club, the 34-year-old Chilean forward scored 20 goals and provided 23 assists in 109 appearances across all competitions. He helped the club win a Scudetto, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana.

Meanwhile…

Italian side, AS Roma are deep in negotiations with Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku and have started to draw up the terms of a deal, according to Italian transfer expert, Gianluca Di Marzio. The report details how Giallorossi directors Tiago Pinto and Ryan Friedkin held a meeting with their Chelsea in London this morning to continue talks for Lukaku following yesterday’s introductory dinner.

Roma are looking to sign Lukaku on a €5m loan deal with no permanence clause attached. They had previously rejected this approach from both Inter Milan and Juventus but, the Blues are now open to as the summer transfer window enters its final week.

The Belgian striker has already given the green light to the move and the Giallorossi are now working on agreeing personal terms. Lukaku will have to lower his salary to around €7-8m net, as he did last season with Inter, and there is optimism that a deal can be finalised soon. The EPL side want to sort out his future before making a move for another striker before the transfer window closes.
