Amorim Bemoans Game-Time Frustration As January Exits Loom For Wantaway Players

Written By Albert Echatah

Manchester United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, stated that some players might ask to leave during the January transfer window.

While the Red Devils are enjoying a positive period—winning five of their last seven Premier League matches and the last three straight—not everyone is satisfied.

Due to a lighter schedule with no European football, Amorim has fewer chances to rotate the squad. This limited playing time means those players who are currently on the fringes of the team might be unhappy and look for moves elsewhere.

Amorim confirmed that players not getting enough playing time might seek a transfer in January, particularly those hoping to secure a spot on their national team for the World Cup.

“A lot of things can happen, even in our club,” Amorim told reporters. “And you know that we have the World Cup, some players are not playing, they will ask to leave. So I have to manage everything.”

Man United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo might seek a transfer because he hasn’t started any of the club’s first nine Premier League games.

Coach Amorim addressed this, saying that Mainoo’s current limited playing time makes it difficult to rotate the squad, especially since they only have one game per week. He noted, “Mainoo, with the minutes he’s playing, needs more games for me to make a rotation. With one game [a week] it’s really hard.”

Adding to potential outgoings, Manchester United will also lose Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon) and Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast) in December and January as both players will be representing their nations at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Manchester United aren’t planning on signing any temporary players to replace the duo. However, Amorim confirmed the club is searching for players to improve the squad permanently during the winter window.
