Andriy Lunin Considering Real Madrid’s Summer Exit

Despite winning over the public, media, and Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid goalie Andriy Lunin is still unsure about whether he wants to stay with the team after this summer. When questioned about his future in February, Lunin responded to the media by saying he would “obviously” like to continue at the club. However, the most recent information out of the Spanish capital suggests that he may still think about leaving.

Since Thibaut Coutois suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the beginning of the season, Lunin has replaced Kepa Arrizabalaga as the starting goalkeeper for Real Madrid. Although the Ukrainian goalie is enjoying his first experience starting, Diario AS reports that Lunin may choose to pursue a guaranteed starting position based on how the season ends.
With his current contract ending in 2025, negotiations have not yet begun to negotiate a new one. It is expected that Courtois will return to goal as soon as he is fit. It is anticipated that he will be prepared for a match in April. While Los Blancos are glad to have Courtois supported by a reliable goalkeeper, he may feel that winning the starting position for Ukraine is more essential, which would mean playing more first team football at the club level.
The daily from Madrid also notes that Lunin was once benched for Courtois in the Copa del Rey, so he might be looking for assurances regarding his playing time in the upcoming campaigns.
