With the recent takeover of Inter Milan by Oaktree Capital from Suning, things are really moving at a fairly regular pace. But no official announcement yet. The same is also being reported for their manager, Simone Inzaghi. In his case, there are varying reports, but there is a general agreement that he would soon sign.

For the former Lazio manager, there’s nothing official too, but it looks like the club can finally announce the contract extension of one of their star players. Nicolò Barella has agreed to a new deal with Inter, and multiple sources in Italy claim the Nerazzurri will release an official statement this week, before Italy’s Euro 2024 debut.

The Italian international has extended his contract with Inter until 2029, according to Corriere dello Sport and Sport Media set. The Serie A champions will confirm the agreement with their midfield star this week before the Azzurri’s debut at Euro 2024.

The reports add that Barella has already signed his new contract with the Nerazzurri, making him the highest-paid Italian footballer in Serie A in 2024-25. According to the report, Inter had planned the announcement earlier.

But the midfielder’s fourth child, Romeo, was born last week, so the Nerazzurri postponed the release of the official statement. Barella is currently out of action due to a muscle injury and missed Italy’s friendly encounters with Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Notwithstanding, coach of the Italian national team, Luciano Spalletti is confident the Nerazzurri star will be available in the Euro 2024 debut against Albania on Saturday, but he might not get to start, or even feature at all. This is to keep him fresh for the remaining two games ahead, against Croatia and Italy.

Inzaghi is determined to have five attackers at his disposal next season and it could see Valentin Carboni afforded more opportunities, according to a report from Il Giorno. The Nerazzurri are planning for a wide range of options up front as they seek to retain their Serie A crown.

Captain of the side, Martinez and Marcus Thuram will lead the line as the preferred choices after establishing a prolific partnership, whilst incoming arrival from Porto Mehdi Taremi will take the place of the released Alexis Sanchez. It appears that Marko Arnautovic will be retained for the time being.

Unless a suitable offer comes in for the Austrian, and Inter will then fill the fifth spot with an option from the youth team or who meets home-grown status.Argentina international Carboni is the most likely candidate following a successful loan spell with Monza, and his future will be decided in preseason, although a sale isn’t ruled out.

Alternatively, Inter could look at bringing Andrea Pinamonti back after selling him to Sassuolo, given the striker is unlikely to remain in Serie B following relegation. However, he is thought to be unwilling to operate as a back up and a return would be difficult, whilst it is a similar story with Sebastiano Esposito following a successful loan spell with Sampdoria.
