Arsenal And Lyon Zoom Into UEFA Women’s Champions League Semi finals

Arsenal FC and Lyon became the first two teams to make it to the 2024/25 UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) semifinals on Wednesday.

Arsenal had to come from 2-0 first leg deficit to secure a 3-2 win on aggregate against Spanish side, Real Madrid.

Record champions, Lyon on the other hand defeated German league winners, Bayern Munich 4-1 to complete 6-1 aggregate victory.

Three goals early in the second half gave Arsenal the victory they needed to overturn a 2-0 first-leg loss to Real Madrid.

Arsenal conjured a three-goal flurry early in the second half to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit and win their UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.



Madrid held their two-goal advantage until half-time, but it was Arsenal who led on aggregate by the hour mark as Alessia Russo scored either side of a Mariona Caldentey header, the result sending the Gunners into a semi-final against Lyon (who previously beat them in the last four in 2010/11 and are coached by former Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro).

Meanwhile, French side, Lyon relied on second half goal spree to conquer Bayern Munich 4-1.

Klara Buhl put the visitors ahead in the first half but second half goals from Melchie Dumonay, Kadidiatou Diani, Tabitha Chawinga, and Ada Hegerberg sealed a 6-1 aggregate win.

Arsenal FC and Lyon will meet in the semifinals while the other side of the last four will be determined on Thursday.

Chelsea welcome Manchester City with a 2-0 deficit while holders, FC Barcelona have a huge advantage over Wolfsburg.
