In July 2023, the 25-year-old managed to move from Championship team Coventry City to the Portuguese powerhouses, and he has had a successful 2023–24 season thus far.

In his 25 Primeira Liga outings, Gyokeres has scored 22 goals. This season, he has scored 37 goals in 50 club and international games.

Thanks to the striker’s performance, Ruben Amorim’s Lisbon team is currently leading the league by one point over second-place Benfica.

The 19-time Portuguese champions, who take on Roger Schmidt’s Benfica in Tuesday night’s second leg of their Taca de Portugal semi-final, are also aiming for cup success.

With players like Nicolas Jackson finding it difficult to gain the support of most fans, Chelsea is eager to add the former Coventry marksman to strengthen their striking lineup.

Arsenal is keeping an eye on Gyokeres’ development, as Mikel Arteta seeks to enhance his present attacking alternatives, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus.

‘This marks the completion of the transaction, but just the beginning of our journey to take Manchester United back to the top of English, European and world football, with world-class facilities for our fans. Work to achieve those objectives will accelerate from today.’
