According to multiple reports, Newcastle United have entered the race to capture Everton’s Amadou Onana, an Arsenal transfer target, during the current January transfer window.
More Details
In an effort to expand Mikel Arteta’s options in the midfield, the Gunners have already begun negotiations with Everton over a contract for the 22-year-old this month.
However, Chelsea is not the only team vying for Arsenal’s attention; The Telegraph claims that Newcastle is now also attempting to sign the Belgium international. Onana, who has also been linked to Manchester United in the past, is reportedly not happy at Goodison Park.
Everton is reportedly willing to settle for a £50 million price for Onana, who they acquired from Lille in August 2022 for a sum of £33 million.
Although Newcastle is willing to pay the £50 million asking price, they would want to sign him to a permanent contract at the end of the current campaign.
However, should Everton sell for the “right price,” the Magpies might be persuaded to make a complete transfer this month.
Newcastle abandoned their pursuit of Kalvin Phillips due to demands from Manchester City, and now there is word of their interest in Onana.

Jadon Sancho has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the 2023–24 campaign.
Two and a half years have passed since the England international permanently switched to the Red Devils, who paid £73 million for his services in the summer of 2021.
“Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho has rejoined former club Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season,” the Red Devils said in a statement. “The England international of 23 caps leaves with our best wishes for the remainder of this season.”
