In order to rekindle their waning title campaign, Mikel Arteta’s team is in dire need of reinforcements up front. After suffering an ACL injury during the Gunners’ FA Cup loss to Manchester United, Gabriel Jesus will undergo surgery on his left knee, leaving Arsenal without any alternative strikers.

Despite having played one more game, Arteta’s club is now six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. As they attempt to overcome a 2-0 first-leg deficit away to Newcastle in the League Cup semi-finals after losing to Manchester United in the FA Cup, the Gunners are also in danger of losing both domestic cup tournaments.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested Ferguson to replace Jesus’ void as Arsenal may be headed for a fifth straight season without a trophy. But English Premier League teams are only allowed to recruit two loan players; the Gunners have already done so with Raheem Sterling and Neto.
It means Arsenal’s prospects of getting Ferguson would have to be through a permanent contract, unless Sterling or Neto were recalled by their original clubs or signed permanently themselves, thereby freeing up a slot for Ferguson.

When asked if he finds it funny that Arsenal is always being linked to attackers, Arteta says he knows it’s just part of the transfer window.
“No, I understand it happens as well in the summer, and I get a lot of people texting ‘When are you signing him and him and something’ I don’t even know what they’re talking about,” he said.
“I don’t follow it too much. I have enough work to do with a lot of things, so I don’t get too distracted with it.”
