The summer acquisition resumed training with the Gunners on Wednesday, marking his first appearance on the pitch since he tore his ACL against Nottingham Forest on the first day of the season.

Timber signed a £34 million contract to join Arsenal from Ajax in July, with performance-based add-ons possibly raising the price to £38.5 million.

The Dutchman was poised to be their starting left-back for the season after starting in the Community Shield victory over Manchester City in the customary season opener.

Since Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko spent a large portion of the previous season playing in those positions and the club lacked an established full-back, Timber seemed like a wise addition to the team.

Although the young defender had demonstrated his versatility at Ajax by playing in the middle and on both flanks, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes’ pairing meant that the majority of his action was probably going to be as a full-back.

Arsenal’s next game is on Monday night at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United. With just two points separating them and leaders Liverpool, the Gunners travel to South Yorkshire to play their next match.

Meanwhile…

Manchester United have announced that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s official 27.7% takeover of the team in exchange for a £1.3 billion agreement has now been completed.

Ratcliffe said: ‘To become co-owner of Manchester United is a great honour and comes with great responsibility.

‘This marks the completion of the transaction, but just the beginning of our journey to take Manchester United back to the top of English, European and world football, with world-class facilities for our fans. Work to achieve those objectives will accelerate from today.’
