With just one year remaining on his deal with the La Liga team, Merino, a former Newcastle player, could be signed for as little as €25 million (£21.1 million).

Barcelona are among the teams interested in Merino; nonetheless, sources from Spain (via Sport Witness) imply that Arsenal might have gotten an advantage over the fiercely competitive Catalan team.

In an effort to entice the midfield player to the Emirates, it is rumoured that Arteta has already spoken with Merino, who is now representing Spain in the Euro 2024.

A central midfielder has been identified by the North London team as one of the important positions to improve this summer, as Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey are anticipated to depart.

Additionally, it has been reported that Arsenal are interested in Martin Zubimendi, a colleague of Merino, as well as players like Bruno Guimaraes and Amadou Onana.

According to reports, Premier League clubs have approved the introduction of a development plan that will curb spending beginning with the 2025–2026 season.

The spending cap proposals were approved by 16 teams, and their goal is to keep the gap between the Premier League’s lower-half teams and its financial titans from growing.

Nevertheless, a report from BBC Sport claims that three teams vying for European football—Manchester United, Manchester City, and Aston Villa—are thought to have voted against the proposal.
