According to reports, Manchester United and Arsenal have suffered a setback in their attempt to sign Sporting CP attacker Viktor Gyokeres, as a La Liga powerhouse may have a significant edge in the competition.

After showing off his attacking prowess in Portugal, where he has scored an incredible 52 goals in 49 games this season, the Sweden international is expected to be on the move this summer.

Gyokeres was rumoured to have preferred joining the Gunners, with a transfer to either the Emirates or the Theatre of Dreams being considered his most likely next career move.
The former Coventry City striker, whom he also attempted to sign when working for Atletico Madrid but was unsuccessful, is being courted by new Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta.
However, Mundo Deportivo asserts that Atletico Madrid might still overtake Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign Gyokeres this summer, even without Berta controlling the purse strings.
According to reports, Los Colchoneros have initiated a “formal enquiry” to learn more about the striker’s circumstances, and they may even get outside assistance from Nike, a clothing company.

The sportswear company and Atletico recently renewed their partnership through 2035, and it seems that Nike is eager for Gyokeres to play for one of their affiliated teams.
It seems like both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also supplied with Nike kits. However, Barcelona’s earlier interest in Gyokeres appears to have faded, and PSG isn’t really seen as a strong possibility for signing him.
Conversely, both Manchester United and Arsenal have agreements with Adidas, but it is said that Nike would even cover a portion of Gyokeres’ transfer fee to guarantee his arrival at Atletico Madrid. Although the Sweden international has a €100 million (£84.6 million) release clause in his contract with Sporting, the club is expected to consider offers closer to €70 million (£59.2 million) as a thank you for his service.
