Arsenal Vs Manchester City Headline 2024/2025 WSL Opening Matchday

Former Arsenal player and the English Women’s Super League (WSL) record goal scorer, Vivianne Mediema will face her former club on the opening day of the new WSL campaign for the 2024/2025 season.

Mediema joined Manchester City in the summer from the Gunners.

Arsenal stopped City from winning the league title last season in the penultimate game with a brace by Stine Blackstenius giving Chelsea FC the title on goal difference.

The Gunners will begin their 2024/2025 WSL season at home to Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.



The Gunners played six WSL games at the Emirates last season. Jonas Eidevall’s side has been at the forefront of using big stadiums to bring big crowds for big games.

There are going to be eight more WSL games at the Emirates next season and potentially three more UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) games.

There was record-to-record attendance which tumbled across last season.

The opening game of the season was held at the Emirates with 54,000 attendance against Liverpool, then 59,000 a little later on with the home game against Chelsea then over 60,000 tickets sold for Manchester United and North London derby against Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Champions Chelsea will start their title defence under former Lyon coach, Sonia Bompastor against Aston Villa at home.

The opening games for next season will take place between September 21 to 22, 2024.
