Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has cautioned Liverpool that it will be difficult to hold onto their eight-point lead for the rest of the Premier League season.

Arne Slot’s team has won 10 of their first 12 Premier League games, which is a great start to the season.

Liverpool leads second-place Manchester City by eight points and Arsenal, who are tied with third-place Chelsea on 22 points but fourth in the rankings, by nine points.

If Liverpool defeat Man City at Anfield on Sunday, they will increase their lead this weekend. However, Slot has already cautioned his team about Arsenal’s title collapse in March 2023, when Arteta’s team lost an eight-point lead to City in their race for the title.

“Well, yes, we’ve been there,” Arteta said in response to a question concerning Arsenal’s capacity to overcome Liverpool’s lead.

‘And to sustain it for ten months is extremely difficult. Everything has to go your way.

‘And sadly, when you think that you have it, one day, plop, it collapses. And it can be through a result, it can be through injuries, it can be from other kinds of decisions. And it can happen in any moment. And we have to be ready for that.

‘But again, it’s something that we don’t control. What we can control is what we can do and do that our very best.’

Arteta responded as follows when asked if he believes Arsenal is in the greatest position to overtake Liverpool: ‘I really believe in my team, yes.’

When asked if he had doubts over Manchester City’s quality, Arteta said: ‘No, because even with those injuries, they deserve to win every game. It’s simple.
