AS Roma Ready To Make A Move For Lazio Star In The Summer

Written By Onyeka Daniel

The next transfer window is less than a month away and as expected, clubs are already making their moves to improve their squad for the coming season, and for Italian Serie A side, Roma, it is no different, but the Giallorossi are planning an audacious assault on their city rival.

More Details

According to a report from Corriere dello Sera, Roma are plotting a massive blow to Lazio by snatching Daichi Kamada on a free transfer. The Biancocelesti signed the 27-year-old last summer as a free agent after seeing out his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, he only penned a one-year deal which will expire at the end of the season. The Japanese star can unilaterally extend his contract with Lazio for another three years by activating an automatic renewal clause before May 30th.

But according to a separate reported, he prefers to waive this option in order to renegotiate better renewal terms. In the meantime, Roma have reportedly entered the fray. As the source tells it, the Giallorossi are looking to avenge themselves for Pedro’s Lazio move in 2021.

The two clubs share one of the most heated rivalries in Europe, so direct transfers from one side to the other are a rarity. The report expects the next few days to be intense on this particular front.

Kamada struggled for playing time at the beginning of the season under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri, but immediately cemented himself as a protagonist in Igor Tudor’s 3-4-2-1 system.

He can operate as a central midfielder, or in a more advanced role behind the striker. His transfer will become more important if Paulo Dybala decides to walk away from the team coached by Daniele De Rossi.

Cagliari are already beginning to plan for life after Claudio Ranieri and could make an approach for current Torino coach Ivan Juric, according to reports in Italy recently. Ranieri stepped down from his position on Tuesday evening after securing Serie A safety over the weekend.

It was a mutually agreed termination of contract, as the 72-year-old had two years remaining on his deal, which was due to expire next summer, in 2025. However, according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Cagliari’s first point of contact will be Juric, who himself is set to leave his position at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Back in February, the Granata boss suggested that he would leave the club if they were unable to land European Football for next season. According to Tuesday night’s report, Cagliari had already made an unsuccessful attempt to appoint Juric, dating back to his time before Torino.

It will, of course, be down to Juric himself whether he decides to entertain Cagliari’s suggested proposals.Di Marzio suggests that Cagliari had also thought about making a move for Paolo Vanoli of Venezia, who is currently mid-way through the Serie B play-off semi-finals. However, he looks set to join Torino as the eventual successor to Juric.
