Atletico Madrid, Barcelona Make Enquiry Over Potential Mason Greenwood’s 2024 Transfer

Written by Olaleye Oluwadamilola

Over the past two weeks, there has been more speculations over Mason Greenwood’s future. Due to the 22-year-old’s outstanding play for Getafe, several teams are apparently showing interest in the Manchester United winger who is loan after completing a summer move from the English Premier League side.

More Details

Greenwood was accused of rape back in 2022 but the charges were later dropped after a crucial witness withdrew from the investigation, so it is unlikely that he will ever play for Manchester United again. This would make it possible for him to move out, and it’s possible that he ends up going back to Spain—just maybe not with Getafe, who can’t afford him.

Atletico Madrid is reportedly among the teams interested in Greenwood according to Estadio Deportivo. The player’s representation and the team’s sporting director Andrea Berta are said to have made initial contact.

Not only Diego Simeone’s side, according to rumors in England by MD, Barcelona is also reportedly interested in Greenwood. However, considering their interest in Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian, they really don’t need another right winger. Should Atleti decide to make a strong move for the talented winger, this might provide them with a big edge.

The Catalans are reportedly getting ready to make Man United an offer of €45 million. This would be a significant sum of money for a player who doesn’t seem likely to play for the Premier League team ever again.

Barcelona is allegedly prepared to offer Greenwood the number 10 jersey, which Ansu Fati vacated during the summer, in order to sweeten the bargain. When the 21-year-old returns from Brighton and Hove Albion next summer, a sale is anticipated.

Given what ultimately caused Greenwood to leave Manchester United in the summer, his arrival at Barcelona would be highly contentious. Furthermore, given that they don’t require another right winger, it would be quite surprising if they could spend up to €45 million.
