Atletico Madrid Facing Julian Alvarez Transfer Conundrum

Barcelona are in search of a high profile attacker that will serve as a long term replacement for veteran striker, Robert Lewandowski with his continuity at Camp Nou beyond the summer in doubt. The Polish captain has expressed interest to renew his deal for another year even with a pay cut but the Catalan club is yet to open contract extension talks with his camp.

It is believed that the reigning LaLiga champions are plotting at recruiting his long term successor with Julian Alvarez topping that list, a potential deal that could see them break the bank once more having done so for Coutinho and Griezmann back in 2018 and 2019 respectively having struggled with the1:1 salary rule in recent years.

Recent reports indicate that Barcelona have also made contact with Dušan Vlahović who is set to become a free agent in the summer. However, it remains unclear whether the Serbian forward is viewed as a priority target, particularly after several difficult seasons at Juventus.

Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong is also being monitored although he is considered more of a long-term project, having made his La Liga debut only in 2025.

According to Sport, Barcelona will move decisively for Julián Álvarez if they are able to return within their salary cap, with the Argentine emerging as their preferred option. Álvarez is also said to be open to a return to the Premier League. Several major clubs are tracking the forward and a deal in the region of €100 million could be on the table, with Chelsea among the sides to have made enquiries.

Currently under contract with Atlético Madrid until the summer of 2030, meaning he has about 5 more years left on his deal beyond the 2025–26 season, his summer exit looks very much unrealistic with Simeone viewing him as a cornerstone of his project.
