Atletico Madrid Open To The Idea Of Signing Ronaldo, Move Dependent On Morata

Written By Onyeka Daniel

The future of Cristiano Ronaldo may finally be settled in the coming weeks as we get closer to the end of the transfer window for the summer.

More Details

The player has already stated his desire to play elsewhere as he seeks to play in the UEFA Champions League for the 20th consecutive season, something he would be unable to do if he stays at Manchester United.

His agent, Jorge Mendes has been proposing him to several clubs including Chelsea and Bayern Munich and both have declined the chance to sign the 5-times Ballon d’Or winner, but may have finally found a willing club.

Spanish side, Atletico Madrid had initially rejected the idea of signing the Portuguese, as they seem it economically impossible, but reports has it that, their coach, Diego Simeone may have pushed the club to try and find an agreement for the player.

Currently, the Los Rojiblancos cannot afford the player and his wages, but should they be able to get some transfer done, in terms of player sales and the Ronaldo also taking some pay cut, maybe a move can happen.

First on the list is Spanish striker, Alvaro Morata, who has been on a two years loan with Juventus.

Atletico had been holding out for the €35 million agreed before letting the player join the Bianconeri, but the Italian club is only willing to pay €20 million and the player subsequently returned to Spain.

Even though they’ve signed Angel Di Maria, coupled with the presence of Dusan Vlahovic, Federico Chiesa and Mouse Kean, their coach, Allegri is pushing the club to sign Morata as he wants depth for his forward.

Should Atletico Madrid succeed in selling Morata and maybe Angel Correa, they could finally make their assault for Cristiano Ronaldo and also be able to afford their primary target, Nahuel Molina.

Meanwhile…

Italian side, Lazio are considering making a move for former Real Madrid defender, Marcelo as they look to react to the news of former Juventus striker, Paulo Dybala joining their city rival, AS Roma.

The Brazilian defender, Marcelo has been without a club since leaving the Spanish side earlier this summer and is said to be considering his options. He’s not short of offers.

But he wants to stay in Europe, hence would find it hard to get a club that can match his salary at his previous club. Lazio are seriously considering the move, but they would want reassurance over the player’s health for committing to any deal.

Last season Marcelo played just 12 La Liga games for Real Madrid, starting only five of them. A muscle injury and calf problems left him sidelined for a number of games as well.
