Andriy Lunin

Real Madrid celebrated their Champions League victory in high spirits, but goalkeeper Andriy Lunin seemed less thrilled. Known for his reserved demeanor, Lunin remained seated after the final whistle against Borussia Dortmund while others congratulated Thibaut Courtois.

More Details

Reports suggest Lunin is seriously contemplating his future at the club as talks of a contract extension until 2029 have stalled, and Lunin has yet to sign. He might leave regardless of the contract, but Real Madrid would prefer a sale without an extension due to financial reasons.

Lunin has attracted interest from several clubs, and his Euros performance could further boost his value. Notably, rivals Atletico Madrid are keeping a close eye, considering him a potential replacement for Jan Oblak.

While Atletico previously targeted Giorgi Mamardashvili, Lunin could be a more cost-effective option if his contract situation remains unresolved.

Real Madrid would ideally sell Lunin to another club, but a good offer from Atletico could tempt them to avoid potential locker room issues next season.

Meanwhile…

Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso faces an uncertain future as his contract expires this summer with no renewal on the horizon. The 33-year-old’s challenging year, limited to just eight appearances, hasn’t enticed Barcelona to extend his stay.

While negotiations with Atletico Madrid fell through, Alonso might find Champions League football elsewhere. According to Relevo, Catalan neighbors Girona could offer him that opportunity. Though they haven’t formally approached him yet, he’s reportedly on their shortlist.

Girona’s current left-back situation is thin, with Miguel Gutierrez being their only natural option. However, Gutierrez’s former club, Real Madrid, holds a buy-back clause for a mere €8 million, making him a potential target for other teams as well.

This situation leaves Alonso with a choice: wait for Girona to make a move, explore options outside of Spain, or potentially return to a lesser league where he might see more playing time.
