Atletico Madrid is planning an initial loan move which is likely to be made permanent with a £20 million purchase clause for Matt O’Riley of Celtic but they will be up against competition from Premier League rivals for the young Celtic midfielder who is a prime transfer target for the Spanish team as they are somewhat in pole position to get the deal done in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old O’Riley is impressed by Diego Simeone’s interest, but he isn’t going to push for a forceful exit away from the club and Celtic don’t want to lose the player who has been their best performance so far this year, especially when they have a little window of time to find a replacement before the end of January.

As the championship race is anticipated to be close, manager Brendan Rodgers views him as an essential component of his team.

Meanwhile…

This season, Antoine Griezmann has been playing at an amazing level. The French forward is one of the top players in La Liga and the globe right now, and he has scored 18 goals and provided five assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. This success has made him Atletico Madrid’s talisman.

Griezmann is expected to guide Atleti to victory this season. Los Rojiblancos are 11 points behind Girona at the top of the standings, making La Liga seem impossible. However, they still have the Copa del Rey and the Champions League where they are more than capable of winning the title.

Former Atleti striker Sergio Aguero, who spoke exclusively to Stake, expressed his happiness with Griezmann’s play and said that he thought the 32-year-old would lead his team to victory this season.

“Griezmann should, of course, feel right at home on the team where he has had his best career performances. In addition to scoring, he is a player who helps others score. I’m glad for Atleti because it implies he’s keeping them competitive for major achievements”.

If Atletico Madrid can win at least one title this season, it will undoubtedly require Griezmann to be at the top of his game. If that is the case, Diego Simeone and his team will have a very successful campaign.
