More Details

Álex Baena appeared emotional during what seemed to be his final appearance at La Cerámica, shedding tears and delivering a farewell speech to the fans—strongly hinting at his impending departure. Atlético Madrid have emerged as the frontrunners for his signature and have been working to negotiate a lower transfer fee.

However, while Villarreal are open to discussions, they are reportedly holding firm on a valuation of €45–50 million for the Spanish international.

After weeks of negotiations, the new development is that Atlético Madrid and Villarreal have reportedly reached an agreement for midfielder Álex Baena, who is expected to become Atlético’s third major signing of the summer.

While the deal has yet to be officially confirmed, it is reported to be valued at €45 million plus an additional €5 million in variables as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, building on an initial report by David Medina.

Atlético Madrid reached a contract agreement with Álex Baena several weeks ago, with the 23-year-old giving his approval to the transfer, having shown a strong desire to join the club.

Although his contract includes a €55 million release clause, Villarreal were open to negotiating a lower fee as a gesture of goodwill after Baena rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia in January.

While some final details such as the payment structure still need to be ironed out, both clubs and the player have now agreed to the transfer, paving the way for his move to the Metropolitano.
